Senior Commissioning Editor – Tor, Bramble
We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a Senior Commissioning Editor to publish romantasy, fantasy romance and romance at Tor, one of the leading publishers of science fiction and fantasy (SFF).
We are looking for a commercially minded, pro-active and entrepreneurial editor for our new Bramble list with experience in spotting talent and publishing bestselling authors.
Your team:
You will be an integral part of the friendly, innovative Tor team. We are an internationally celebrated imprint specializing in speculative fiction/science fiction and fantasy, with sister imprints in the US and Germany. Tor UK’s prestigious list includes Adrian Tchaikovsky, V. E. Schwab, Talia Hibbert, Olivie Blake and Carissa Broadbent. In October 2024 we launched Bramble, our fantasy romance and romantasy list, with our horror list, Tor Nightfire, coming in 2025 and ambitious plans to expand our genre fiction lists further.
Your role:
In this busy and wide-ranging role, you will work closely with the Bramble Publisher and the wider editorial team to acquire new genre fiction for the Bramble list, taking projects forward from concept to acquisition to publication and beyond, ensuring the smooth running of the publishing process. You will also be tasked with seeking out new opportunities to grow our audio and digital publishing for Bramble.
Your key responsibilities:
Developing and commissioning your own titles in line with imprint strategy and under the direction of the publisher
Liaising with agents, authors, and in-house colleagues to enable the smoothest, most efficient and best-quality publication of each book, including championing them in-house
Presenting and pitching titles at sales conferences and internal meetings
Writing cover copy, catalogue copy and title information sheets
Briefing jackets and covers and liaising with internal stakeholders such as the Design, Sales, Communications, Managing Editorial, and Production teams
Meeting with and representing the list and company to literary agents
Carrying out any other duties that are commensurate with the scope of the role.
Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:
We are looking for someone who is passionate about fiction in all formats, is knowledgeable about the romance, romantasy and fantasy romance genres and who has previously commissioned in one or all of these areas. We are also seeking someone who is highly organized and an effective communicator, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Significant experience working in the publishing industry commissioning fiction
A love of genre fiction including romance and SFF
Commercially-minded with a proven ability of publishing bestsellers
The ability to negotiate financially viable and favourable contracts with external parties
An excellent knowledge of the editorial process from start to finish
The skills to complete structural and developmental edits and line-edits to a high standard, as well as experience of contributing to edits for US-originated books
The ability to project-manage effectively
Excellent administration skills with the ability to organize, prioritize and manage workflow to deadlines
An excellent eye for detail
Effective oral and written communication skills
Familiarity with the Biblio title-management system.

This is a full time, permanent, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
