The Adult Editorial Department makes up two thirds of our overall business and is responsible for finding, acquiring and publishing all the amazing books that we put into the market for adult readers. We are the people who lunch with literary agents, gossip at book fairs and read submissions from authors and agents in order to select and negotiate complicated rights deals to secure the authors we publish. However, just as importantly we also oversee our books through the whole process of publication from structural editing, copy editing, proofreading thorough to - with help from colleagues across the company - positioning the book for the market, briefing the cover approach to our colleagues in the Art Department and liaising with the author and agent about their book.
We are divided into three divisions:
Pan: whose imprints include Pan, Macmillan and Mantle, where we publish our big, popular fiction and non-fiction such as Ken Follett, Elton John, Danielle Steel, Peter James, Mariah Carey, C.J. Sansom and The Yorkshire Shepherdess
Picador: whose imprints include Picador and Macmillan Collector’s Library, where we publish our literary fiction, poetry, classics and serious non-fiction such as Alan Hollinghurst, Adam Kay, Jessie Burton, Kae Tempest, David Olusoga, The Secret Barrister and Don DeLillo
Bluebird: where we publish books that aim to help people live healthier, happier, more purposeful and connected lives by authors such as Joe Wicks, Kay Featherstone and Kate Allinson (who together form Pinch of Nom), Nikesh Shukla, Mariella Fostrup and David Harewood.
