Email Marketing Manager, 13 Month Fixed Term Contract
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an award-winning big-five publisher in a dynamic and innovative digital marketing team. You will be responsible for managing an engaging consumer email marketing programme, working with a wide range of exciting titles across our imprints. This is a 13 month fixed term contract.
Your team:
Our Digital Marketing team works with many departments across the business, including communications, sales and editorial. We are an energetic, collaborative and creative team with an in-depth knowledge of digital marketing channels – from metadata to SEO, data collection to analysis, paid digital ads to influencer coordination and much more – and we support campaigns for our books and brands across Adult and Children’s publishing.
Your role:
Reporting to the Senior Email Marketing Manager, the Email Marketing Manager is key to the team as you will be responsible for Pan Macmillan’s consumer email marketing programme, including planning and scheduling, copywriting, design, optimisation and reporting. You will have the opportunity to work with brilliant, creative people from across the business who are passionate about books and getting them into the hands of readers.
This is a varied role, working with different titles across our imprints and a range of audiences, each with unique digital marketing requirements. Working with other members of the Digital Marketing team, you will help to put together streamlined digital campaigns that will have a direct impact on the success of individual titles.
Your key responsibilities:
Manage the content planning, creative (design and copywriting), scheduling and reporting of Pan Macmillan’s scheduled consumer email programme, ensuring best practice, consistency of send time and quality of output.
Establish a regular programme of experimentation, utilising Pan Macmillan’s approved AI tools, to optimise email marketing’s content output.
Work with the Senior Email Marketing Manager on consumer data-capture strategy for Pan Macmillan, identifying new opportunities for data capture, working closely with marketing colleagues to manage the competitions process, advising on best data-capture practices and advocating for running data-focused giveaways.
Research and plan content articles for the website that are specifically optimised for email marketing audiences. Manage the end-to-end process of these articles, including copywriting, designing image assets and uploading to the CMS, contributing monthly or as and when needed.
Work with the Senior Email Marketing Manager in implementing our email marketing development roadmap. Liaise with our Email Marketing Platform provider and internal technology development team to deploy new strategies that optimise email marketing output and first-party data collection.
Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:
A working knowledge and experience of email marketing (including proficiency in HTML), with demonstrable use of email marketing platforms (such as DotDigital, MAPP, Fresh Relevance, MailChimp).
Solid understanding of email marketing best practices, GDPR and legal implications.
Excellent consumer copywriting skills, with an understanding of consumer triggers and motivations, as well as an eye for detail.
Strong design and formatting skills.
Extensive experience with reporting on campaign and content effectiveness.
Ability to run projects independently and maintain a busy and varied email marketing schedule.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams.
Creative, curious and strategic thinker with a passion for publishing and digital innovation.
A passion for reading and books.
Desirable skills we’d love you to have:
Experience with Adobe Photoshop

This is a full time, 13 month fixed term role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
