We have an exciting opportunity to join the Harriman House team as our new editorial assistant. We are looking for someone with a passion for books who is conscientious, detail-orientated, dedicated and highly organised to provide editorial and administrative support for our busy editorial team.
Your team:
You will be an integral part of the small, innovative Harriman House team, working on a wide range of our books. Harriman House is a globally focused imprint operating in the business and finance sector.
Our highly regarded portfolio brings our readers top-quality content by leading authors including the huge international bestseller The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel.
Our business has grown rapidly over recent years and we have ambitious plans to grow further, working with the best authors in our sector and publishing and selling our books across the world.
Your role:
As Editorial Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the editorial process from manuscript to publication and be responsible for the smooth running of our administrative processes. You will have the opportunity to assist in the development and production of a wide range of business and finance titles and be a key support in keeping books on track from the moment of submission all the way through to publication, and beyond.
Your key responsibilities:
Providing administrative and editorial support to the editorial team at large
Assisting the editorial team to ensure manuscripts are delivered on time; reviewing and processing proof corrections; and being the main point of contact with the authors throughout the production process
Compiling and researching information for the Commissioning and New Book meetings
Preparing manuscripts for handover to production to agreed standards and on schedule
Setting up new titles on Biblio (our bibliographic database), and ensuring that any changes to projects are updated promptly and in line with key dates
Assisting with permissions and copyright, and advising authors as appropriate
Assisting in the preparation of metadata including book cover blurbs, sales points and marketing copy, in conjunction with the marketing teams.
Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:
Highly organised with the ability to multitask and prioritise work
Effective teamwork and relationship-building skills
Proactive and able to take initiative
Ability to work independently and under pressure
Good time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
Exceptional attention to detail and command of English spelling and grammar
Excellent professional communication skills (oral and written)
Strong IT skills including competency in using Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, and Google Docs.

This is a full time, permanent role, and will be based in our offices in Petersfield, Hampshire, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
