Rights Assistant
The Rights Department is responsible for the sale of subsidiary and co-edition rights for the Macmillan adult imprints around the world. Pan Macmillan’s award-winning lists include the fiction and non-fiction imprints of Macmillan, Pan, Picador, Bluebird, One Boat, Mantle, and Tor. Pan Macmillan is part of the Macmillan Publishing Group.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Rights Assistant to join the busy and successful Adult Rights team, facilitating administrative and sales support to help the team reach their targets. You will act as a key point of contact between Rights, Editorial, Royalties, Production, and other in-house teams, as well as a wide range of external customers. You will be responsible for accurately updating and maintaining our Biblio database, processing paperwork on deals, as well as organising book fair and sales trip schedules.
We are looking for someone who will thrive in a very busy rights department and be able to work effectively within a team. You should be extremely well-organised, have excellent administrative and interpersonal skills and be able to prioritise tasks efficiently.
The key tasks of the role will include but are not limited to the following:
- Providing administrative and sales support for the Adult Rights team
- Administering and processing sub-rights contracts from deals being agreed, to contracts being raised, signed, and invoiced
- Responsibility for the negotiation, sale, and supply of production materials to international publishers
- Administering the licensing of Permissions through the Publishers Licensing Society
- Data entry and accurate upkeep of our Biblio database, and generating reports
- Assisting with the creation of rights guides and materials for book fairs and overseas trips
- General departmental administration
- Organization of book fair and sales trip schedules
- Maintaining and building excellent customer relationships
Experience/skills required:
- Knowledge/experience of publishing, ideally within rights
- Desire to work in a busy international sales department
- Highly computer literate, with particularly strong skills in MS Office. Knowledge of Biblio is desirable
- Able to demonstrate excellent written, verbal and numerical skills
- Able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills within a busy environment, particularly managing and prioritising own workload
- Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
This is a full time, permanent role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.

Salary starting from: £26,000 onwards
