We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Editorial Director to join our Fiction, Non-Fiction and Picture Books team on a 12 month fixed term contract.

You will be working with the Macmillan Children’s Books Fiction list and will involve working with a variety of authors from our award-winning and commercially successful list.

You will work closely with the Publisher and the wider editorial team to ensure the smooth running of the publishing process from acquisition to publication and beyond. This will involve being editorially responsible for a list of authors, caretaking and managing certain key author relationships, contracting books for publication, presenting and pitching titles at sales conferences and internal meetings and writing cover copy and briefing jackets.

As part of a busy and dynamic team you will also be responsible for developing junior members of the team and meeting and representing the list and company to literary agents.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have significant experience working in the publishing industry as a commissioning editor - or a similar level of experience in other media
  • Have excellent knowledge of the editorial process from start to finish
  • Have the ability to negotiate financially viable and favourable contracts with external parties
  • Have the ability to project manage effectively and deliver on time
  • Be commercially minded with proven ability to recognise opportunities
